Builders like myself, that work or run small building businesses in the uk are skilled, hardworking and the back bone of our economy. If you think about it if we carry out, lets say a house renovation, he/she will be generating work for the banks, architects, builders merchants, all of the builders merchants suppliers of bricks, timber and all of the 1000's of supplies that are required for the project. There might be 1000's of people involved to create these jobs that we have to go and sell every night.
On from this we pay our personal taxes, collect taxes on behalf of HRMC such as vat, and subcontractors tax. The overall tax burden for a small builder is enormous. We get no rewards for collecting these taxes.
None of the Government's furlough schemes help the self employed person earning over £50K. This is not fair, the government have got it completely wrong!
An employed person earning over £50k will be paid 80% of their salary and we get zero.
I need to work, the guys who work with me need to work, but we can't because all of the suppliers have decided to take the decision to furlough their work force. I don't blame them of course. The Coronavirus is not a illness to take likely. The Government have given us no help or support and left us to float down the river without a paddle!
Below is where we are at the moment with our latest job. As you can see we are currently turning a typical useless conservatory into a fantastic modern orangery along with a skypod, but we can't get the doors and windows as the companies have all closed until further notice and we can't get paid!
If you would like a quotation to carry out any building projects after the Lockdown has been lifted please call.
